Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about driving lessons and what to expect when learning to drive. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

How many driving lessons will I need?

Most learners need around 45 hours of professional lessons when they have additional practice, or around 75 hours with no practice. This varies depending on your confidence, experience and how often you practice.

How long is each lesson?

Lessons are usually 2 hours long which helps with faster progress and better skill retention, however I do offer 1½ hour lessons.

How much do lessons cost?

£75.00 for 2 hour lesson
£365.00 for 5 x 2 hour lessons
£710.00 for 10 x 2 hour lessons
£1,380.00 for 20 x 2 hour lessons

(includes use of the car, insurance and guidance from a fully qualified ADI driving instructor).

What should I bring to my first lesson?

Your provisional driving licence
Glasses or contact lenses if required for driving

Can I cancel or reschedule my lesson/s?

Yes, but usually giving 48 hours notice is required to avoid being charged.

Can I have lessons in my own car?

No as the instructors car has dual controls.

How often should I take lessons?

Ideally once per week. Having regular lessons help build consistency, and this reduces the time it takes you to pass your test.

Will I drive on main roads and in traffic?

Yes once you develop the basic skills lessons will include;

Town driving
Dual carriageways
Junctions and roundabouts
Independent driving practice

Do I need to pass my theory test before I start having lessons?

No you do not need to pass it before starting lessons, but you must pass your theory test before booking your practical driving test.

What will happen on my first lesson?

You will understand and learn the basic controls
Learn cockpit checks
Practice moving off and stopping
Do some simple driving (quiet road/car park)

What if I feel nervous?

Mention this to your instructor who will support you and build your confidence gradually.

What will happen if I make a mistake on a lesson?

It doesn’t matter as it is all part of learning.

Your instructor will explain what went wrong
Your instructor will help you correct it
Your instructor will help support you getting it right

How do I know when I am test ready?

Your instructor will advise when you consistently;

Drive safe and independently
Meet DVSA test standards
Handle different road types and situations.

How can I pass my test faster?

Can I use my instructor’s car for the driving test?

Yes your instructor will offer a test day package which will include;
